Practice giving yourself what you need even when you DON'T need it...

When I'm delivering sessions, people often ask ‘How do I remember to give myself what I need in the moment?’ My answer:‘Practice giving it to yourself when you DON’T need it’.

We won’t remember how to soothe and calm ourselves in the moment when we’re struggling, unless we practice soothing and calming ourselves on a regular basis until it becomes familiar. You wouldn’t turn up to a marathon and expect your body to remember how to run 26 miles when you’ve never trained it!

The thing is, we think the answer to what we need will be something big, glamourous and sexy that we can whip out in a crisis.

Sorry to disappoint you, but it doesn’t work like that.

Often what we need is pretty simple, that’s why you may roll your eyes and dismiss it.

The practices I teach are simple, potentially boring sometimes – I know, not very appealing is it.

AND here’s where we go to work – To kick ass on WHY you’re not practicing those simple things AND to unmuddle your brain (and the conditioning by society), so you can actually give yourself what you need.

I know – I’m giving it to you straight up today aren’t I? Please take it with the ‘big sister’ vibes intended…..

So if you are:

Exhausted – rest, breathe, move your body, look at a tree, hug a dog.

Energised – rest, breathe, move your body, look at a tree, hug a dog.

Sad – rest, breathe, move your body, look at a tree, hug a dog.

Happy – rest, breathe, move your body, look at a tree, hug a dog.

Practice giving yourself what you need when you DON’T need it, so that when you do, your body knows what to do.
