A mid-winter message for you
Winter solstice - today is the darkest day and from now we are heading back towards the light :)
All the signs are there, showing us how to slow down…
The skies are darker - sleep more.
The air is cold - cosy up.
The trees are bare - stop and look at those branches, notice anything familiar in them?
It may look pretty dead out there, but what an illusion.
Underneath the ground, stuff is happening. Mama nature is plotting and scheming.
But she knows that to have the light, we must have the dark.
To have the summer we must have winter.
To blossom and bloom we first must die.
And that is what this mid-winter point is asking of us……
To allow ourselves to slow down, pause, let go and allow what as gone to die.
Last night I ran my second Winter resting session this season - it was beautiful.
We gave ourselves full permission to pause, let go and rest.
Through movement, music, poetry and meditation we created the conditions to lean into what mid-winter is showing us - it’s time to rest.
And there was resistance.
There was fatigue.
There were tears.
and then there was the surrender into deep rest.
Our bodies are tethered to the rhythms of the seasons. They know what to do, if only we slow down enough to hear them speak - they will guide us.
And I know us modern day humans didn’t get the memo - it’s 4 days to Christmas and there’s soooooooo much to do!
But my invitation to you is - ‘What really needs to be done?’
‘What really matters?’
and if you were to take yourself aside for 10 minutes and sit with your weary body, what might it tell you? - Listen to it.
I really hope you have the festive season that you need, and find moments of joy and lightness - but please make space for the darkness - she is you friend.
