Are you numbing your feelings?
My work is about helping you feel safe enough to feel.
It’s not as simple as ‘just feel your feelings’. Most of us have numbed our feelings for a long time. We live in a world that treats feelings as an inconvenience, unless they’re ‘positive’ ones.
But being an alive human being is about feeling it all. As Brene Brown says ‘we can’t selectively numb our feelings’. So if we numb our sadness we numb our joy too.
It makes sense why we would slowly numb our feelings, it can be scary to actually feel them. Plus we live in a world where we have little choice in carrying other peoples feelings too - with 24/7 global news it can be a lot!
But we can’t just decide to feel again, we need the conditions to feel safe enough to feel.
We need to slow down enough to feel our bodies and what they are speaking to us.
We need to be in places and with people who are not afraid of our feelings and meet them and us with acceptance.
So if you know you’ve been numb to your feelings we can work together to slowly remind your body that it’s safe to feel again. That you don’t have to do this alone. That you don’t have to be afraid of yourself anymore.
