Things don't have to be serious to be powerful

Have you watched Jayde Adams’ stand up routine - Serious Black Jumper ? It is hilarious and really appealed to my way of thinking (and humour).

She’s really taking the piss out of how to be taken seriously (even in comedy) and so, rather than wear her usual flamboyant outfits, she wears a plain black turtle neck for this routine. I mean, it wouldn’t matter what she was wearing because she is just bloody hilarious and clever and witty and so in touch with what’s going on in the world.

I feel like this is really relevant in my ‘industry’ of personal development/coaching/healing, because we can often get led to believe that to make changes in our lives we have to be really serious about it.

For example, you might be following my work because you feel stuck, uninspired or lonely. You might have lost your spark, your creativity, or feel disconnected from yourself. So, I know this is not a fun place to be, and so we try to double down on ourselves by reading the self-help books, listening to the inspirational podcasts and trying to create new habits. ALL this is good stuff and can give us the kick-start we need.

AND….

sometimes is can keep us stuck too.

We can become really heavy and serious with ourselves and the changes we want to make, and use it as another tool to beat ourselves up when we fall short and don’t make the progress we desire.

And I know this because left to my own devices, I too can can get heavy and serious with myself, as well as seeing the people I work with get bogged down in this trap.

So I think there is another way.

We can approach difficult, uncomfortable and even painful things with a light-hearted spirit AND take them seriously.

We can be soft and gentle with ourselves AND still hold ourselves to high standards.

We can experience joy and fun ALONGSIDE our sadness and grief.

We can be a responsible adult and get stuff done AND be silly and childlike and playful.

In fact, if you’re like me - your light-hearted spirit is probably something you’ve lost along the way. Maybe you’ve had to be very resilient in your life, or shouldered a lot of responsibility and so being playful and light went out the window a long time ago.

I believe that things don’t have to be serious to be powerful.

Creating capacity for more joy and ease and light-heartedness is exactly the medicine we need in this quest to becoming more ourselves.

So if this is singing to you, then lets chat.

I have places available on my 3 and 6 month coaching experiences and I would love to reignite your light-hearted nature again.
