The goal is not to feel good all the time
The goal is not to feel good all the time. The goal is to not run away from ourselves even when it gets tough.
I know I talk about joy a lot - because I do believe we fear our joy. We are wired to notice what’s wrong and so we need to exercise our joy muscles.
AND the goal is not to feel good all the time either.
Something I think that trips us up when we are on a ‘self-discovery journey’ (I know it sounds cheesy but I haven’t found something better to call it), is this quest for feeling better and better. When actually the route to feeling ‘better’ is to be able to really be with ourselves at our ‘worst’.
When we learn to be with ourselves however we are, there’s nowhere to get to.
We can settle in knowing that we’ve got our own back.
We can relax in the safety of our own body.
We no longer need to run elsewhere to escape ourselves.
We ultimately find our inner peace.
To feel fully alive we need to experience the good, the bad and the ugly.
So yes, bask in those moments of joy, pleasure, excitement AND equally be willing to stay when it’s painful.
