What would it be like to effort LESS?

What if you made less effort? Oooh scary?

We’ve been conditioned to ‘make an effort’.

Make an effort with your....

Hair, make-up, clothes, other people, your work, your time, your exercise regime, your body...

Is it really necessary to effort so much? Efforting takes a lot of energy.

When I first started meditating and my teacher would say ‘see if you can allow the practice to be effortless’ I felt an instant shift in my body of releasing and letting go. I think it was the first time I had ever been told to do something with less effort. Everything I had known was about giving 100% effort to all that you do. It was radical!

What I’ve learned over a long time is that most things don’t require as much effort as I think they do. In fact, when I let go and stop efforting things happen with more ease and flow.

I know you’re thinking – ‘but if I make no effort, I’ll be lazy, I won’t get anything done, my standards will drop’. This isn’t about ‘doing’ this is about ‘being’. When we’re efforting we are pushing, forcing and blocking our energy flow. We can ‘do’ something with full commitment AND ‘be’ relaxed, and at ease.

Now, when I’m stressing out over something I say to myself ‘How could I do this with less effort?’ Immediately I relax and the energy that was being blocked by the effort releases and moves.

I really encourage you to give it a go. Even if it’s 10% less effort. Think of how much energy you could conserve in a day by ‘being’ more at ease.
